The subject search is an A to Z index of the subject terms, regions and countries used to index the IMAGES database. The subject thesaurus used is the OECD Macrothesaurus for Information Processing in the Field of Economic and Social Development.

To search, click on the first letter of a term or place. Scroll through the list, click on an appropriate word and click on “Submit Search”.

To search additional fields in the IMAGES database, use the advanced search. Searches in the title and subject fields can be combined with the boolean operators and or & not. “And” is the default operator between different fields.

To view the subject, project number and photographer’s name indexes, click on the “Browse” button. Scroll through the list, click on an appropriate word and click on “Select”.

To limit a search to a range of years, use the date range field (e.g.1998--2000). Double hyphens must be placed between the years.

A result list of 1 will display a large image with an image citation. A result list of more than 1 will display thumbnail images. Click on these to view the large image and a citation.

Image citations may include linked subject terms, project numbers or photographer’s names. Click on these to retrieve additional images.

Links to BIBLIO, the IDRC Library catalogue and/or IDRIS, IDRC’s project database will appear below the citation if additional information is available.

Project Number: IDRC file number
Photographer’s Name: the creator of the image
Digital Image Number: catalogue number of the image
Year: year image was created
